It was in the late 1700s that gutsy people who called themselves dentists started to appear. It will be for about 100 years later that Dentistry as a profession would be licensed and standardized.
But before that, if you have a tooth problem, you will have to go to a man or sometimes a woman who can do this job. Lack of proper training and medical knowledge, these ‘early dentists’ believed that before anything could get better for you, blood had to flow, with the use of their indispensable pair of forceps, a pen knife, and blood-stained apron. And, yeah, no anesthesia.
