Over 30 years ago, a bear cub named Fifi was purchased by the Pennsylvania roadside zoo. She was forced to perform tricks for the first 10 years of her life, confusing tricks like standing on her hind legs. But her suffering wasn’t over when the roadside zoo closed its doors more than 20 years ago. They left the poor bear languishing in a rusty cage that look like a tiny doghouse.
Fifi’s condition was so bad that when PETA and The Wild Animal Sanctuary rescued her, they had doubts about her full recovery. She was so thin, and she suffered from painful, untreated arthritis. Her rescuers transported her to the Colorado facility, where she finally gets all the care she needs and a healthy habitat that she deserves.
