Ethiopian Tribe Collects Trash And Turns Them Into Beautiful Jewellery

While we mindlessly throw away our trash without any regard for the environment (calm down, we’re all guilty of this), the Daasanach tribe in the Omo Valley in Ethiopia collect the rubbish, particularly discarded watches and bottle caps, and turn them into everyday jewellery.

French photographer, Eric Lafforgue, who travels the world documenting some of the world’s most unique tribes, has captured fascinating portraits of this semi-nomadic Ethiopian tribe wearing their unique headpieces. Take a look!

“Tribes do not let anything go to waste. They collect everything and bottle caps are no exception. There is an ample supply from the bars in Omorate, a dusty town where drinking beers and coke is the only way to have fun,” Lafforgue explains on his website.

“…Usually, members of the tribe are eager to sell anything they fashion. However, when it comes to the bottle cap hats, they refuse. They consider them part of their identity now.”
