Dr. Pol is an affectionate name the fans have come up with, Dr. Pol’s better name is Dr. Jan-Harm Pol. He was born September 4th, 1942. He was born in Wateren, Drethe, Netherlands. He is Dutch by nationality. He grew up on a dairy farm where he found his deep attachment and love to animals, thus he understood and cared for animals from an early age.
Dr. Pol did his education in a veterinary programme at the Utrecht University in 1970. It was after his university studies that he took the life altering decision of shifting to the United States, where he later started his veterinarian career in rural Michigan.

Dr. Pol Veterinary Career
In 1981, Dr. Pol with his wife Diane fulfilled his dream of opening their own veterinary clinic called the Pol Veterinary Sciences. They operated the clinic from their garage. Now, through the years with Dr. Pol’s knowledge, sincerity and love for animals this clinic has bloomed into a thriving business. He serves the local community and beyond it as well.
His patients love him for his down-to-earth demeanor and this has made him an object of affection to millions of fans around the world. He is now a household name in the world of Veterinary Sciences.

Dr. Pol Family Life
Despite being so dedicated and caring towards his work and patient, the man has certainly not ignored his family or wife. Dr. Pol and his wife Diane took the bold decision to expand their family through adoption. They have two daughters and a son in whom they have found their complete family.

Dr. Pol’s Daughter: Kathy Pol
Kathlene Pol, is lovingly called Kathy and holds a special place in the heart of all Dr. Pol fans. She is the eldest daughter of the Pol family. She was born on August 21st, 1973 and is the first child to be adopted by Dr. Pol and Diane.
Kathy’s life has been nothing short of an example of being a pillar of strength and resilience, facing all joyous moments and times of adversity with immense courage and bravery. Kathy exchanged vows with her love, Gregory Butch in July 1995. Together the couple welcomed two loving children into their life: Adam James Butch, a son and Rachel Butch, a daughter.
In their loving marriage, Kathy faced the biggest hardship of her life when in 2016 Gregory unfortunately passed away after a long and brave battle with the ghastly disease of cancer. Of course, his death was met with immense grief by Kathy, who stills lives in his void. She has however embraced his memory and lives with her children knowing that he was a loved man by those around him.
Just when Kathy had recovered from the trauma of losing her husband, in the span of the next three years she also loses her eldest son, Adam James Butch. Adam died in September 2019, when he was just 23 years old. A promising pharmacy technician, his memory lives in all of the Pol-Butch family’s hearts. The exact cause of his death is never disclosed by Kathy.
Despite losing two of the most important people in her life, Kathy has embraced the tough battles life has thrown at her. She shines as a beacon of extreme strength and courage. Currently, Kathy resides with her only surviving child, Rachel and is a practicing phlebotomist.

Dr Pol Son: Charles
Charles Pol is the only son to Dr. Pol and his wife Diane. He was born on March 6th, 1979 and is the only son in the Pol family.
Just like his father, Pol also showed from a young age a keen affinity and interest for animals and his father’s work as a veterinarian. Growing up on the family farm, he spent immense time assisting his father with care and comfort of all animals around him, whether small or large.
When done with his education, Charles followed his passion by pursuing a career in media and production in the entertainment industry. He completed his degree in Mass Communication and Media Studies at the University of Miami.
Charles relocated to Los Angeles, California in 2003 where he immersed in the world of television production. He has gained invaluable experience interning and working at companies such as Paramount Pictures, Mirage Enterprises and Parkway Productions.
The fan loved show “The Incredible Dr. Pol” was actually the creation and idea of Dr. Pol Son Charles. He came up with the idea to shoot a documentary style series recording his father’s work and life as a veterinarian. Charles served as the Executive Producer for his father’s show turning it into the success that it is today.
Charles is also dedicated to his family, finding joy in every moment with his wife Beth and their two children, Abigail and Silas. They all share a profound love for animals and are committed to upholding the Pol family legacy together.

Dr Pol Daughter: Diane Jr.
Diane Jr. was born on September 21st, 1984. She was adopted at birth and is the youngest daughter in the family.
Inspired by her dad’s work in the field of Veterinary Sciences, Diane picked her own path guided by the idea of passion and making a difference in the community. SHe has embraced various roles and responsibilities from early on in life, acting as an advocate for animal welfare and education.
Diane Jr. remains in Michigan, playing an active part as an animal advocate, while also helping around in the family business and engaging with the fans of the “The Incredible Dr. Pol,” show.
