When the Autochrome Lumière, an early color photography process patented and produced by the Lumière brothers was first marketed in 1907, a wealthy French banker named Albert Kahn decided to commission 4 photographers to take their cameras and create a photographic record of the world.
The photographers, Leon Gimpel, Stephane Passet, Georges Chevalier and Auguste Leon set out to capture life in various parts of the world starting in 1909. In 1914, they took their cameras to Paris and began to immortalize, through these beautiful colored photographs, the city’s fascinating daily bustle.
Take a look at this awe-inspiring collection. Enjoy!
