On February 28, 1998, a scientist named Dr. Andrew Wakefield published his so-called MMR vaccine study in the medical journal The Lancet. He claimed that he had just discovered a link between autism and vaccines.
It sparked years of controversy making parents mistrust vaccines and lawsuits against vaccine makers. It was later discovered that Dr. Andrew had made the whole thing up. Further investigation revealed that he had fabricated everything. The medical journal apologized. But the damaged is done.
In the following years, millions of dollars have been spent to ascertain if there’s really a connection between autism and vaccines. This is what they discovered.
